The 2024 Floorball Canada National Championship welcomed a pair of lopsided performances and a back-and-forth battle on opening night.

Team Ontario and Team Quebec kicked things off on the men’s side. Ontario was on the board early, establishing a 4-0 lead during the first period.

Quebec avoided being shutout when Alexandre Dupont found the mesh, but it wasn’t enough to shift the momentum.

Team Ontario continued to find goals, both Andrew Bourque and Reed Hunsberger logged hat tricks. Ontario’s high-octane offence earned them a concise 13-1 win.

Final: Ontario 13, Quebec 1
Ontario MVP: Reed Hunsberger
Quebec MVP: Lucas Oliveira

The two women’s teams took the floor next, playing their first match in an aggregate scoring three-game series.

Elise Van Thielen opened the scoring, granting Ontario an opening period lead that would last the entire match.

While Nova Scotia couldn’t get the ball past the Ontario goalkeeper, they had several free hit opportunities as Team Ontario took their time adjusting to the physicality of the game.

Meghan Jeffries closed the game with deep shot, making it a final score of 5-0.

Final: Ontario 5, Nova Scotia 0
Ontario MVP: Elise Van Thielen
Nova Scotia MVP: Sophie Pomeroy

The Friday night finale was a battle between the remaining men’s teams, Team British Columbia (B.C.) and Team Nova Scotia.

Nova struck first, scoring in the opening five minutes. B.C. responded with a shot from distance, closing the first period 1-1.

The game proved to be a back-and-forth affair as the team exchanged goals throughout the second 15 minutes of play. Things were locked at 3-3 heading into the third period.

B.C. jumped to a 5-3 lead during the third, and with nine minutes to work with, team Nova Scotia was only able to add a single goal to their score.

The tight matchup ended 5-4 in favour of B.C.

Final: B.C. 5, Nova Scotia 4
MVP: Libor Stros
MVP: Ethan Wolfe
