2022 Men's WFC Switzerland RECAP

The Men's World Floorball Championship 2022 was recently held in Zurich & Winterthur, Switzerland on November 5 - 13, 2022. Floorball Canada finished 2nd in Group C after beating Thailand (9-4) and Singapore (8-4) while falling to Estonia (13-5). The team finished with a 2-1 record propelling them to the playoff stage where they faced a strong German team who finished 3rd in Group B. Germany is a familiar opponent for Canada as the team faced Germany in the WFC 2020 in Helsinki, Finland last year in the 9-12 placement game. Canada unfortunately loss to the German squad yet again to a score of 21-3. The Men's National Team had a quick turn around as they set their sights to Denmark in the first of two 9-12 placement games. After a strong effort from the Canadians, Denmark came out on top with a final score of 8-4. The 11th place match is very familiar to the team and the opponent for their final match of the tournament was no different. A rematch from the WFC 2020 took place as Canada faced Poland in this year's 11th place match yet again. The Men's National Team held their own and pushed the Polish team to their breaking point. With no surprise, the game ended up in overtime for a second straight year where Canada came up short as they fell 7-8 to Poland. Valtteri Viitakoski led the Canadian team in points for the tournament (11+3), Krystof Kasha appeared in all 6 games posting a 0.694 save percentage, and Patrick Mahoney led all rookies in goals and points (2+0).
