Floorball Canada is pleased to announce the signing of new Men’s National Team Head Coach Mattias Slashing Karlsson!
Karlsson is a native of Karlstad, Sweden and comes to Floorball Canada with plenty of experience in the floorball world. Most recently, Karlsson has headed the Karlstad IBF men’s team in the Swedish Allsvenskan League as well as headed the Karlstad IBF women’s team in the Swedish Super League (SSL) before making the jump to the men’s program.
Mattias’ first appearance with the Men’s National Team will take place in Iceland when Floorball Canada competes against USA and Iceland in international friendlies this November.
“What excites you at the opportunity to join Floorball Canada?” It’s something different to floorball here and I have had teams on all different levels here, so it is an exciting thing to do as a next step.
“What goals do you have as the new Head Coach of the Men’s National Team?” I would like to be a part of building floorball in Canada in the next years and I hope we can develop floorball in Canada as well as the team and players. I hope we can take a step up in the World Floorball Championships and would be great to be a top 10 team in the world.
“What are some of your proudest moments in floorball?” When my junior team NB/87 went to play in the last 8 of the Swedish Junior Championship as Head Coach.
When we won the playoffs with Karlstad IBF men's team and were promoted to SSL as Assistant Coach.
When we, Karlstad IBF, as a new team in SSL managed to stay up the first year even though we were projected to finish last.
