© IFF FloorballFloorball Canada has mutually parted ways with Head Coach of the Men’s National Team, Mattias Karlsson. The organization will not name a replacement at this time.
Karlsson joined Floorball Canada as the Head Coach of the Men's National Team in late 2023, with his first appearance at the Floorball Iceland Invitational in November of that same year. Bringing coaching experience from the highest level in Sweden (SSL) with his former club Karlstad IBF, Mattias led Canada to a perfect record in the event. Canada defeated Iceland 10-2 while defeating the USA in a close game with a score of 5-4.
Building momentum from his first international event with Floorball Canada, Karlsson continued to find success at the WFC 2024 AMER Qualifications in Toronto, ON in February of 2024. Bringing a veteran Canadian squad against a younger American team, Karlsson led Canada to two convincing victories of 11-2 and 15-5, punching the team’s tickets to WFC 2024 in Malmo, Sweden and The World Games 2025 in Chengdu, China.
Hoping to lead Canada to their first top-10 finish in history, Karlsson brought what was considered one of the best Canadian Men’s National Teams to the WFC in Malmo. Unfortunately, the team was not able to come together, with the loss of forward Brandon Barber before the start of the tournament and forward Kristopher Ruckemann after the second group stage match. Canada ended the tournament in 16th place after a 6-9 loss against Australia in the 15th place match.
Floorball Canada wishes Mattias Karlsson the best in his future floorball endeavours.
